It seems Zoe Saldana doesn't mind herself a bit of geekery. Following her appearances in Avatar, Star Trek and comic book adaptation The Losers, the actress has signed up to play Gamora, the female lead in Marvel Studios' upcoming adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saldana will join cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) and Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) to take on the part of the green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species exterminated by the Badoon race.
We're waiting for the news to be properly, officially confirmed, but so far reaction to the rumour is positive.
Meanwhile, in other Guardians news, Latino Review reckons we can bet on Thanos being the big bad for the movie, revealing that Basil Sandhurst will be one of the primary antagonists in the film. Also known as The Controller, Sandhurst is set to act as Thanos' henchman and ambassador.
A regular player in the Marvelverse, The Controller has gone head-to-head with Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. Armed with a specially designed and heavily armoured exoskeleton granting him superhuman strength and agility, The Controller also uses slave discs to gain control of others.
If the concept art released earlier this week is anything to go by, this is going to be something to get excited about.
Guardians of the Galaxy will hit cinemas on August 1, 2014.
