Rejoice, fellow geeks, for today we have news that will make girls the world over very happy women indeed.
James McAvoy is one of us.
The actor admitted his inner geekdom to Total Film, cementing his status as THE PERFECT MAN in the process.
Of course, having starred in comic book adaptations Wanted and X-Men: First Class, it may come as no surprise that Yummy McAvoy has a predilection for the genre but it's nonetheless wonderful to hear.
The admission came when asked by the mag which character he might like to take on next.
“I’d like to play Gandalf,” he revealed, laughing, apparently. (Good God, he's got a sexy laugh. We're extremely jealous of TF's interviewer.)
“It’s called The Silmarillion!” the actor continued, when 'Gandalf: Origins' was postulated. “It’s a collection of poems and songs that chart the ancient history of Middle-earth. My true geek is coming to the fore, but they’re really, really beautiful stories.
“In part of that is the genesis of Gandalf, or Mithrandir, or Stormcrow, or any of his many, many names. Anyway, maybe that’s the one!”
Did you read that? His TRUE GEEK. It's enough to send us to a beautiful fantasy land… *sigh*. He should totally call us to discuss.
Our overactive imaginations aside, the thought of McAvoy as Young Gandalf is certainly something for Peter Jackson to ponder. If anyone's got the acting chops to live up to the awesome precedent set by Sir Ian McKellen, it's this man.
