It looks like worlds are most definitely set to collide in geekgasmic fashion next year.
Stars of the original film franchise Anna Paquin (Rogue), Ellen Page (Kitty Pride) and Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) will reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class.
Director Bryan Singer announced the news on Twitter, posting: "Very excited to welcome #annapaquin, @ellenpage & @shawnrashmore to #XMen #DaysofFuturePast - thank you @BrettRatner for letting them live!"
Of course, the signings make sense. Shadowcat plays a major part in the 1981 Uncanny X-Men story which will involve both the 1960s First Class mutants, and a future version of the original trilogy characters, who live in a dystopian future in which mutants are hunted down.
Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine are also confirmed to appear alongside Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as the younger Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
Singer, working from a script by Simon Kinberg, is set to kick off shooting soon.
We're sure we're not the only ones who can't wait to see a veritable orgy of X-Men on screen when the film hits cinemas on 18th July, 2014.
