We love Batman. Bruce Wayne, in whatever guise, wins as far as we're concerned.
But, as much as we're fond of The Dark Knight, isn't it kind of overkill to reboot the movie version of the character just five years after Christopher Nolan's epic and genre-defining trilogy starring Christian Bale came to its gripping conclusion?
Rumour has it that Warner Bros is planning on bringing Gotham's hero back in 2017 with a new on-screen incarnation of the Caped Crusader, to be introduced in 2015's Justice League movie (which, incidentally, is likely to serve as the launch vehicle for a bunch of solo DC hero movies including Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Flash).
Is it really necessary?
Well, no. Not really. But Hollywood never let necessary get in the way of anything, did it?
Several actors have already been linked to the role of Batman in both Justice League and the proposed reboot, including Armie Hammer, soon to be seen in Lone Ranger, and Dark Knight Rises actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Speculation persists over whether Man of Steel star Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in Justice League, and if we'll see Ryan Reynolds return as Green Lantern, but no official casting details have been confirmed.
