Dear James Gunn... Carrey? Sandler? Really?

Last September, we did a tweet on Twitter about how much we love James Gunn after his absolutely adorable announcement confirming he'd been chosen to helm Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy. He then favourited that tweet (see pictorial evidence below), which made us love him more. (Yep, we're that shallow. What of it?)

Then there was the whole hoo-ha over that blog post, an incident which put him at a stern 'Hmm' in our estimations, and the ensuing humble apology, which earned him a couple of notches up again, to 'Oh', or thereabouts.

But now we have a real dilemma. If the latest rumours about Guardians of the Galaxy are true, Gunn could be about to make a mistake that sends him crashing all the way down to 'Ugh' on our scale of approval. But then, if he pulls it off, he could slide all the way up to 'Ooh', or even 'Ahh'.

What are we talking about? We're talking about the possibility that Jim Carrey and, more controversially, Adam Sandler - Adam Sandler - will star in the movie.

Yeah. You see our problem now, don't you?

We're back at 'Hmm'.

According to Latino Review, insiders are claiming that the pair are in talks. For what roles, nobody knows, though current speculation suggests that Marvel is after Carrey and Sandler's voice talents for Rocket Raccoon or Groot.

Rumours surrounding the casting of Guardians of the Galaxy's main man Star-Lord remain in circulation, with the latest names linked with the role including Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell, and Cam Gigandet. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, John Krasinski, Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden, Sullivan Stapleton and Lee Pace are also on the list.

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014.
