We thought Steven Moffat was the brains behind all Doctor Who greatness. But it seems sometimes even The Moff needs a bit of help.
The showrunner has admitted that Mark Gatiss had to work hard to convince him that the "rubbish" Ice Warriors should return in the Sherlock collaborators upcoming episode provisionally titled The Cold War.
"It was Mark Gatiss's idea - it was very much his pitch," The Moff revealed at the Gallifrey 2013 convention in Los Angeles.
"He'd been pitching for Ice Warriors for a while [and] I wasn't tremendously persuaded, I'll be honest.
"I thought they were maybe the default condition for what people thought of as rubbish Doctor Who monsters - they moved very, very slowly and spoke in a way that meant you couldn't hear a word they said."
But Moffat explained that he was eventually turned around when Gatiss pitched a number of "really stormingly good ideas" for the creatures' comeback, saying: "It's an absolute cracker of an episode."
Doctor Who will return to BBC One with a new eight-episode run from Saturday, March 30.
