Guardians of the Galaxy: Chris Pratt Cast As Star-Lord

Following rumours that Guardians of the Galaxy could feature Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler in starring roles, we were beginning to wonder whether James Gunn had gone a bit crazy when it came to casting the Marvel adaptation.

But this latest decision is one we can get on board with.

Chris Pratt off of Parks and Recreation, Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty, will take on his first leading role as the Guardians' charismatic leader, Star-Lord. 

The offspring of a human mother and alien father, astronaut Peter Quill fulfils his destiny when he teams up with a group of strange characters from another time and dimension - but to battle which foe? We'll have to wait and see… (*cough* Thanos! *cough*)

We're waiting for the casting announcements that will inevitably come before shooting starts in the next few months, but Pratt's casting, and the rumours that the film will have a strong tie-in to The Avengers 2 fill us with hope.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters on August 1, 2014
