Emma Watson Signs Up To Star In Fantasy Drama, Queen Of The Tearling
Posted on 04:13 by rajrani
Since the conclusion of Harry Potter, Emma Watson has been understandably determined to stay well away from Hermione-type roles.
But the actress is set to return to the fantasy genre as she'll star in and serve as an executive producer on David Heyman's upcoming adaptation of Erika Johansen's novel, Queen Of The Tearling.
Set three centuries after a huge environmental disaster, the trilogy follows princess Kelsea Glynn who must reclaim her late mother's throne and her kingdom, the Tearling, from the dark magic of The Red Queen.
Due to be published by HarperCollins in 2014, the books have been described as "an insightful human story whose heroine is grappling with both the daily realities of coming-of-age and the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly, all while simply trying to stay alive".
[Editor's note: We feel compelled to inform you that Queen Of The Tearling is also described by its publisher as a "female Game of Thrones", a statement which made certain members of the GG♥SF contingent almost incandescent with rage. But we shan't go into that now.]
The movie version is still in early development stages, with a director and writer still to be named.
